Costa Rica is a temperate climate year round with only two seasons.....Wet and Dry! Typically the rainy season lasts from May-November and the ensuing months are dry.
Anglers may encounter tarpon and snook throughout the year, along with jack crevalle, bonita, dorado, mackerel, machaca, mojarra, drum, and catfish. Evening fishing from the dock often produces large catfish, and machaca offer lively light-tackle action and excellent table fare.
For tarpon and larger snook, a six- to seven-foot rod with sufficient backbone is recommended, paired with a reel holding 150 to 200 yards of 12- to 25-pound test line. Light-tackle anglers will find bass or spinning outfits with 6- to 12-pound line ideal. We have a good supply of loaner rods, reels, and tackle available.
Proven lures include Rapala Magnum 11 and 14 series, MirrOlure 65M-11, coastal jigs, bucktail jigs, and Bomber jigs. Productive colors include chartreuse, black and silver, fluorescent orange, green, and white.
Our English speaking fishing guided have been in the area and are experts in getting you on the fish. Each boat and guide will accommodate 2-3 guests.
The dry season from January through May is considered peak season for tarpon fishing in the rivers and lagoons. Excellent inside fishing often occurs in July and early August. During the fall months, calmer seas allow fish to move offshore, creating outstanding coastal fishing opportunities. Overall, fishing remains productive throughout the year.
